At the federal level, the AIA's Government Affairs Department works with the U.S. Congress, White House and various agencies to educate government leaders and others about the profession and the AIA's policies, positions, and objectives pertaining to community development and livability, as well as the business and practice of architecture. This effort involves the AIA in a range of issues including housing, urban renewal, accessibility, historic preservation, energy, environmental standards, security, government design practices, school construction, transportation, procurement, project delivery, small business operations, and tax policy.
